It’s a question that is almost guaranteed to be asked when religion is being discussed. “If God made the world then who made God?”
Something has to be eternal, something which is the first cause of everything else. Why? Well, if there ever was a time when absolutely nothing existed, then nothing could exist now. Nothing comes from nothing. So something has to be eternal, uncreated. Something or someone has to be self-existent.
Recognising this, many ancient philosophers concluded that the universe is somehow eternal. But can that which is continually changing be truly self-existent?
The Bible claims that God is self-existent. No one made God, for God has always been. Such a claim breaks no rule of logic. Amazingly the Bible also reveals that this eternal Being, can be known personally.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
The Book of Psalms, chapter 90, verse 2
And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
Jesus of Nazareth, The Gospel of John , chapter 17, verse 3
